Artist Biography
Summer 2006/07

Emily HILL

Emily Hill was born in Hamilton, New Zealand and began exhibiting in 2003.  She has enjoyed exposure in the Hamilton art scene, where she continues to exhibit, and has recently begun exhibiting in the Bay of Plenty.

Emily visually documents her observation of natural beauty and our interaction with this.  She seeks to connect her observations with the two dimensional surface highlighting segments to encourage others to see differently.  Her recent art practice is mainly oil on canvas, board or paper but more recently she has been experimenting with mixed media especially collage.

Much of Emily's art is influenced by initial working drawings and the subsequent process of transferring these to a 2-D surface.

'My processes have emerged in an almost printmaking fashion, in that many of my pieces have elements of mono-printing and are strongly experimental.  I am captivated by the character and mood still life objects can reflect and use my surfaces and textural backgrounds as backdrops to present a  personified view of these objects.'
